No man nor his dog would be without their smartphone these days. It’s no secret that the handheld digital revolution comes with endless possibilities, however, it can be difficult to work out which plan is best for you. First of all, you need to decide what the main use of your phone is. If you’re a traditionalist who likes to use their phone for its original purpose – phone calls and texting – then the 100mb to 1GB data plan is for you. You won’t be forking out for data that you won’t use, but you’ll still have enough to be able to send the occasional email and browse the web every now and then. Unlimited minutes and texts are part of most contracts, especially with SIM only plans, so you need not worry about a hefty bill.

For those of you who like to use their smartphone more for accessing the web, then a plan offering a larger data allowance is for you. Plans offering 2-6GB of data are the most popular as they allow users to surf the web without the worry that they’ll exceed their data limit. Social media is now a part of our everyday lives and those continuous refreshes of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will be most likely be what uses up most of your data. Smartphones are also very practical for replying to emails as it saves you from logging onto your computer and it means you can do it on the go. A 2-6GB contract will let you catch up on your emails to your heart’s content. Away from the networking side of things, online shopping is very popular nowadays, with 95% of British people buying goods from online retailers. With a generous data plan you are able to shop safe in the knowledge that you won’t go over your plan and can therefore spend more money on clothes…right? Smartphones have replaced music players in many ways now and few people are buying music, with many opting to stream it instead. Apple Music and Spotify are two very popular streaming platforms for music, however, using such services if you don’t have the listen offline option, drain your data, so it is essential you have a plan 2-6GB or large plan.

An increased data plan of 7GB+ is best for those of you who likes to use their smartphone for literally everything. It’s no secret that smartphones can act as most things nowadays and a large data plan would really let you get the most out of your phone. Apple Maps and Google Maps can act as excellent satnavs, however, they aren’t easy on data but a plan of 7GB or higher would allow you to use your phone to find your way whenever you desire. Additionally, if you’re into YouTube or big on Netflix, then it’s more than likely that you use your smartphone to watch such videos, although if you’re not connected to Wi-Fi you may be faced with a pretty high bill come the end of the month. A plan offering 7GB plus would prevent that and you can watch videos on the go, on your lunch break, or even at home if your Wi-Fi is lagging.
